History

Michael Lieberman, owner of  thefurnitureworkshop copy.png (TFW), is one of the Old Manayunk originals who started it all.  He began restoring antiques and refinishing furniture in a small garage on Main Street 30 years ago.  Michael’s Fine Arts background gave him the appreciation of history and design that led him to the world of antiques.  His training with European cabinetmakers gave him the understanding of materials and techniques that make his abilities unique.

In 1991 when TFW moved to the Manayunk substation, a landmark building at the corner of Main Street and Green Lane, there was room to expand into a great source of antique and reproduction furniture. When TFW acquired additional space along Main Street, even more diversity was added to the already eclectic collection. Michael and his wife, Anna Postiloff, are always searching for new and different items to add to the constantly growing inventory.

Now, outgrowing all their spaces thefurnitureworkshop copy.png has moved once again.  The new warehouse is less than a mile away from the original corners of Green Lane and Main Street.  Please see the map on the location page of this website to find the new facilities on Umbria Street at Lemonte.  They look forward to seeing you there.

The above photo appeared in The Philadelphia Inquirer  as part of an article written in 1983.  In his first little shop in Manayunk (4432 Main Street), Michael Lieberman, owner of The Furniture Workshop, was already an established expert on refinishing and cabinetmaking.
